Plywerk isn't the only eco-friendly company in town. We love green design, so we encourage you to check out these other awesome sustainable creators based in Portland.
First, we have to express our love of Grove, a fellow worker in the wonderfully eco-friendly material of bamboo. Their gorgeous i-phone cases come with artwork etched on the back, or simply with the elegant lines of the bamboo wood grain on display. They also have a line of colorful i-phone cases made from post industrial skateboard waste, where they have taken materials that would otherwise be taking up space in a landfill and turned them into highly durable and attention grabbing phone cases.
Among the superior cycling packs offered by North St. Bags are their grocery panniers. These bicycle saddle bags are salvaged from banner vinyl and truck tarps. Not only will your grocery bags be reusable, they will themselves be made from reused material, and they will allow you to carry more on your bicycle so you can use that healthy and environmentally friendly mode of transit for more of your errands and trips. Now you can win environmentalist one-upmanship contests! Or I suppose you could just use them to help the planet, if you're satisfied with quietly doing the right thing. Weirdo.
Finally, envision a more environmentally friendly approach to finality. Creating coffins and urns requires quite a few resources, and reusing them tends to be frowned upon. Scattering ashes is less expensive and has a smaller environmental impact, but there's the risk of a Big Lebowski situation, especially on windy days. The Genesis Biopod is a way to disperse ashes in the sea without any cremains ending up in your buddy's beard. The Biopod is not only made from (and packaged in) sustainable materials, it will provide a marine habitat once it has settled on the ocean floor. The inventor partnered with Mud Shark to make theses ceramic inventions a reality, and Mud Shark works with dozens of other designers and artists to produce an exceedingly varied series of creations out of the highly sustainable medium of clay.
Plywerk is committed to a triple bottom line of People, Planet, and Profit. Consequently, we are thrilled to discover other great companies that are also socially responsible and environmentally friendly, and are excited to share these finds with you. Enjoy!
