Quick Photography Tips & Tricks

First of all, let me say that these rules are not set in stone. Rules were meant to be broken. These are just guidelines to help make your photographs better.

1. Study professional photographer's work.

Looking at what professional photographers are doing can at least give you a great idea of what type of photos you want to take. Instagram is a great resource to find amazing photos. I'm a fan of @cherylwalshfineart. But that's incredibly ambitious. Don't fall down that rabbit hole. I would recommend browsing through several artists to just get an idea of the types of photos you would like to take.

2. Don't buy the most expensive camera you can find.

With the technological advances in cameras, you can get great photographs with a cell phone. You don't need an expensive camera to take great photos. If you want to pursue photography as a hobby, I would recommend visiting a camera shop and speaking with the employees there. They can direct you on what to buy and make suggestions. Do not buy this on an impulse.

3. When lining up your shot, consider the entire composition, not just the subject.

It's easy to get focused on your subject matter and forget what's surrounding them. You want a composition where the foreground and background work with each other, both in color and composition.

4. Don't be afraid to experiment with settings.

Don't be afraid to go a little bit crazy with your camera's settings. Adjust everything, try with flash and without. In the age of digital photography, you can see your results immediately. So take some bad pictures and then just delete them.

5. Learn the rule of thirds.

The rule of thirds is a guideline for composing images and it will make your photographs much more interesting. Check out this link for a very handy video that explains it far better than I could.

6. Learn the rules so you can break them.

There are tons of great resources out there that go over the concepts of photography. Learn what these fundamental rules are so that you can experiment with breaking them.

Follow some of these basic concepts and your bamboo mount photos will really shine.
