Give us a brief description of you an your work.

I create illustrations and pattern designs for newspapers, magazines, wallpaper, bedding, books, and subway posters. I am also part of a 3-person design company called ALSO. We co-authored The Exquisite Book and I authored Drawn In and have a new book coming soon called Farm Anatomy.

What's your goal as an artist?

To continue challenging myself and making work I am excited about.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

Living in NYC.

What was the last full album you listened to?

MGMT Oracular Spectacular. I listen to it basically on repeat lately.

Favorite Golden Girl?

Blanche but I'm probably more like Dorothy.

Now I have. Makes me want to eat Jello. I went through a jello phase recently. But I have moved on to pickles.

Why do you chose to show your artwork on Plywerk?

It makes it look much fancier than just a print.

Julia is a New York native and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. Her client list includes The New York Times, Target, Hasbro, Associated Press and CITY Magazine. You can find Julia's patterns and illustrations on products ranging from wallpaper, to pillows, to milk bottles. In 2002 Julia combined forces with Jenny Volvovski and Matt Lamothe to form a company called Also. Also created websites for small independent companies and recently won the prestigious Young Guns Award from the Art Directors Club. Julia prefers milkshakes to smoothies but wouldn't walk away from strawberry banana smoothy if someone forced it on her.
